- The work may be played in two ways: 1) an orchestra piece with a large solo group (the solo double-bass should be played with the winds; 2) as a chamber work, either a) omitting the ripieno strings (retaining the solo double-bass) or b) replacing the ripieno string sections with solo strings. The premiere was the one for fifteen solo instruments, performed by Parnassus.
